Artist Talk: Illuminating Perspectives – Light in Art and Storytelling

A Conversation with Angelina Mirabito & Sam Galloway

Limited seating (20 spots) – Registration required

Join us for an intimate and thought-provoking conversation between artist Angelina Mirabito and filmmaker Sam Galloway, as they explore the role of light in art and storytelling.

From painting to prose, light shapes perception, evokes emotion, and reveals hidden depths. Through this discussion, Angelina and Sam will share their insights into how light is used as a symbol, a tool, and a narrative force - whether on canvas or on film.

This artist talk is an opportunity to gain unique creative perspectives, engage in meaningful discussion, and reflect on how light shapes the way we see, feel, and interpret the world.

Come and be part of the conversation—where art and storytelling illuminate one another.

About the Artists

Angelina Mirabito

Melbourne-based artist Angelina Mirabito brings a background in Creative Writing (PhD) and a practice shaped by her Italian heritage. Also using unconventional materials and tools—palette knives, sticks, hands, and ladles—she builds layered surfaces that translate internal experiences into vibrant, tactile paintings. Her work explores the intersection of emotion, movement, and materiality, drawing attention to the physical and sensory depth of abstract expression.

Samuel Galloway

Samuel Galloway is a Kiwi filmmaker and video artist based in the Yarra Valley. His work spans narrative film, commercial cinematography, and video art, including light installations and 16mm film. Recurring themes in his practice include the struggles of the working class, climate change, and the bonds of family—ideas he explores with a balance of irreverent humor and emotional depth, shaped by his background in performance and stand-up comedy.

The exhibition and all events are designed to be inclusive and welcoming to all visitors.
